If you are a veteran and you own a small business, the Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB) Certification can bring a strong advantage to what’s available to you in the government contracting world.

The VOSB Certification is part of a group of small business that is eligible for set-asides. Set-asides are where the government requires portions of purchases over $3,000 but under $150,000 to be “set aside” and given to small businesses in order to help them gain an advantage in winning government contracts.

Having the VOSB Certification under your belt can help you get your foot in the door when it comes to selling to the government, and it can also drive customers to your business. According to the National Veteran Owned Business Association (NaVOBA) 70% of Americans would prefer to purchase goods and services from a VOSB.

If you and your business fall under these categories, you could be eligible for a VOSB Certification:

  • Business must be at least 51% owned by a veteran
  • Veteran owners are in control of management and day-to-day decisions
  • Veteran owners must hold the highest ranking officer position
  • Veteran owners should be the highest compensated employee unless there is a logical explanation why they are not
