If your business qualifies for the Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business Certification (SDVOSB), you could be able to access more opportunities with government contracts for your business.
The SDVOSB Certification was created in 2003 after the VOSB Certification, and is part of a group of small business that is eligible for set-asides. The government requires portions of purchases over $3,000 but under $150,000 to be set aside and given to small businesses in order to help them gain an advantage in winning government contracts.
While this money is specifically available for businesses within the SDVOSB Certification, few businesses actually register as an SDVOSB. It’s important that you register your business so you can take advantage of this program, and be able to gain a crucial foothold in the government contracting world.
In order to be accepted under the SDVOSB Certification, your business needs to be a small business, classified as small under the North American Industry Classification System and be at least 51% owned and controlled by a service-disabled veteran (SDV). The SDV must also:
- Have a service-connected disability that’s been determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs or Department of Defense
- Control the management and daily operations
- Hold the highest officer position
